Ever find a book that you just cannot put down, well for me this is that book! Your Holistically Hot Transformation, by Marissa Vicario.

Honest, Easy and Very Thought Provoking.

One statement got me thinking:  “willpower isn’t a reliable weight loss tool”

I repeated this several times, and realized that I do this a lot. If I don’t prep my food, or forget to pack a healthy meal when traveling, I think “well I will just resist any temptations”.   I cannot tell you how many times I have forgotten to pack a lunch for work and in my large office which vendors bring in not so healthy lunches, and I see a warm bread stick and say, I will just have one and realize I put 3 on my plate. Well I decided to use Marissa book as a tool like she suggests, promotes and provides in her book  and see if I could develop some new amazing healthy transformations on my own Holistically Hot Transformation.

Best part of the book is the easy steps Marissa provides to help, aid and move towards your own Holistically Hot Transformation.

At the end of the book Marissa provides ways to incorporate all of her knowledge into your every day life.  Use smaller plates to keep portions smaller, take the stairs instead of the elevator to incorporate exercise into your daily routine when you don’t have time to go to the gym, drink water throughout the day so stay hydrates.  But most importantly, Marissa wants you to stop obsessing – don’t focus on the scale, don’t worry about being perfect.  Just be you.  Be holistically hot!

This is a great read for nutrition and health novices because the essentials are broken down in a way that is easy to understand. Happy Gardening Season!

Summer is here, and so is gardening season. I love to plant annual flowers and keep hanging baskets in my yard for color and all summer enjoyment. With this beauty comes real physical pain. Well, I guess it does not have to be painful, however, I do tend to go overboard and injure myself from time to time. From cuts and bruises to sore muscles and back pain, beauty comes at a price to some.

Gardening is a favorite hobby of mine, even if I experience some pain and minor injuries from it. Here is a  typical injury from cutting branches and weeding below.

I applied Max Arnica on the bruised area with the easy glide on roller and it did provide relief from the pain. I also used on my lower back after a long day of weeding my flower beds and watering my plants.

My Thoughts:

I really recommend this product for use on sensitive skin, I recently had a bout of poison Ivy and my skin was really sensitive after it healed. I applied it several times and loved that it did not irritate or inflame the area. So glad Zim’s asked me to try this product, I now have a new favorite go-to Natural Pain relief topical product rather than the OTC medication.

Winter Comfort – Soup – National Hot Breakfast Month, and Healthy Things I’m loving

 

Things Lately; I am Loving.

My latest breakfast obsession.

Turmeric Paste to make Golden Milk.

Turmeric Paste

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup  turmeric powder
• 1 cup water PLUS 1 cup water in reserve, if needed
• 1/3 cup  Coconut oil
• 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

Golden Milk Recipe

• ¼ teaspoon (or more if you can tolerate the taste) of turmeric paste
• 1 cup almond milk,  hemp milk or coconut milk
• 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (you can also use sesame oil or sweet almond oil) – get unrefined, cold pressed oil
• Some honey,  maple syrup or stevia

Put milk and turmeric paste in a pot and cook on medium heat. Heat the mixture until steaming but not boiling (some recipes call for boiling the mixture but prolonged heat can destroy the active ingredient curcumin). Remove from heat. When the drink cools down, add honey and oil(s). The oil supplies you with healthy fats and further increases turmeric absorption. It helps with joint lubrication and promotes cellular function.

The drink has a nice golden color, hence its name.

A very small number of people have reported allergy to turmeric. If you’ve never eaten turmeric, start with a small dose and observe the body’s reaction.

Here are a few fun recipes provided by Boulder Organic!

Green Chile Pulled Pork:

Ingredients:

– 2 lbs. pork shoulder roast

– 1 tub Boulder Organic! Green Chile Corn Chowder

Place a 2 lb. pork shoulder roast in a slow cooker, add one tub of the Green Chile Corn Chowder on top (add a dash of salt if desired). Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Pull apart and enjoy!

 Chicken Vegetable Chili Nachos:
Ingredients:

– 1 tub Boulder Organic! Chicken Vegetable Chili

– ½ cup sour cream

– 1 bag tortilla chips

– 1 cup of your favorite salsa

– 1 avocado, diced

– 1 jar pickled jalapeno, drained (if you like the spice!)

– 1-2 cups finely shredded Mexican blend cheese

– ½ cup fresh cilantro

Preheat broiler, place top rack about 6 inches from top. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil. Spread tortilla chips over baking sheet. Heat Chicken Vegetable Chili in saucepan until slightly reduced and thickened. Pour chili over the top of tortilla chips. Add cheese to the top of chili (as much as you like!). Place baking sheet on top rack and broil 3-5 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Top nachos with salsa, sour cream, avocado, jalapeno, and cilantro as desired.

Fall Highlights, BeetsBlu Gadgets and What’s in Box

Happy Fall. So here in Michigan it is getting cold. We have also been getting crazy high winds lately, which just make it feel that much colder. So here are some things that have been keeping me occupied lately.

Celebrated 95 years of My Grandmothers life in Arizona. She is truly the most healthy person I have ever met. She was born in Rome and is perfect health. She eats well, enjoys wine with dinner and walks daily. I love everything about her. She is such an inspiration to me. Posted my travel bag in this post.

I love to pack, it is my obsession. The perfect bag. The perfect travel list.  I live to improve upon it each time I travel. I do realize that the perfect travel anything exists, I just love to pack and make lists. Call me weird.

Harvested my Lavender and dried it for some future gift items I will be making for Christmas.

Wore my rain boot. This made me happy. I love these boots. Worked well for camping and wet dewy grass when walking the dogs in the morning.

Packed my bags for an upcoming weekend trip to see my Grandmother and celebrate her 95th. Birthday. p.s. I love packing. It’s seroiusly a obession of mine to pack the perfect bag that is light and can be a carry on. So here is my 4 day trip bag with ony 1 small bag of liquids.

Traded in my 5-year-old 31 bag for a new bag. I use this for work. I work an hour from my home and my typical day  including my commute is a 12 hour day away from home, 5 days a week  so I keep lots of things on hand with me..I am a prepper. So this bag had to be big and easy to carry, and obviously appealing. Kinda feel like I outgrew my other bag and I now use it in my car for storage. Win, Win. I am in love with this bag.

Got my Hair touched up. Yep the grey is in full force. I am 46 after all! I crack up at how people gawk when I get my hair done. It’s like they have never seen someone with 10 pounds of hair.  (not all pics can be flattering. LOL)

Pumpkin Love

Featuring my Favorite Fall Muffins:

Toasted Millet Pumpkin Muffins.

 

These muffins contain easy ingredients I normally have on hand. Loving my huge tub of Chobani.

I love toasting the Millet, it smells so good and kinda pops and brown up.

Plus they are so easy to just plop a spoonful into the muffin tin because it’s a thick batter.

I’ve made these Pumpkin Toasted Millet Muffin before in an earlier post.

 

I love this amazing little muffin. It is packed with flavor and crunch, and as a bonus, they freeze well. I love foods that freeze well. I like to keep a few out a few and freeze the rest for another day. Plus their healthy, and who doesn’t like that?

Ingredients:

Makes 12

These muffins offer an intriguing crunch, thanks to the toasted millet. Savor them warm from the oven, or freeze a batch to have on hand.  Allow muffins to cool completely before transferring to freezer bags. Thawed muffins may be reheated in a 300°F oven for 10 minutes or microwaved for 15-20 seconds to give them a little warmth.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup millet
1 egg
1/2 cup Chobani Greek Yogurt
1/2 cup soy or coconut milk
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce (to replace butter)
1 cup canned pumpkin purée
8 Packs Splenda
1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Method

Preheat oven to 400°F. Place paper liners in a 12-cup muffin pan; set aside.

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add millet and toast, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and just beginning to pop, 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer millet to a plate to cool.

In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, Greek yogurt, soy milk, applesauce (to replace butter), pumpkin, Splenda packets and brown sugar; set aside. Whisk together flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cooled millet in a medium bowl, then gently fold into egg mixture until just combined. Spoon batter into lined muffin tins and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of the muffins comes out clean, 22 to 25 minutes. Allow muffins to cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Here is my experience:

First off, Lets talk food.

So I planted the bottle with the wafers on the top near the toys basket to see how long it would take for the kids to discover them.

Stuart shared one of the wafers with Ginger. I don’t plan on giving these to her on a regular basis like I will Stuart. Ginger is still very young and is super spring-loaded with no joint pain or problems, but its good to know they are available for the times she will need it.

I love these little babies so I was so happy to see if giving this to Stuart would help make his days better and help ease some of his pain.

So when I started him on the wafers I just tried to note any changes. I did notice that he had a little more pep in his step. Over the past few months he has been hesitating before jumping up on things, or giving a little bark or a whine that he wants me to pick him up without even trying to jump up. Now on to some DIY projects I have been so excited to share.

DIY Projects…Love…Love…Love having projects to work on. I love and live to recreate, construct and craft. I always have a project on the deck waiting for me to tackle. So in Bora Bora (Link to Post) I picked up Tahiti Vanilla Bean for cooking, and for some projects I had in mind that I wanted to make. Many more to follow after this one below.

So I grabbed my Vodka and made my own Vanilla (Vanille) Extract as gifts.  I made my own vanilla extract in 2013 from a Foodie Pen Pal Foodie Box I received and was so excited to make my own from fresh vanilla pods from my vacation.

Get your Bean

– Split each bean lengthwise and drop in your empty bottle

Wait 4 to 6 Months

Enjoy.

Just made some easy handwritten labels with instructions and information about the Extract.

I also made flavored vanilla bean vodka for an adult beverage option. Here you only leave the vanilla bean pods in for a few days just to flavor the vodka.

I made a two options. Coconut and Vanilla Bean and Vanilla Bean.

They were so delicious over Ginger Ale and Ice. Sorry No Pictures. I forgot to snap one I was so eager to try. I will tell you this. It was very fresh tasting having actual fresh vanilla beans in making this.

Something Fun.

Received my very own Young Living Essential Oils Starter Kit. So excited to try this brand. Being a huge user of Essential oils for years myself I decided to try a brand that you can use internally. Most of my usages over the years has been for Health and Beauty Products.

Made my own DIY Lip Gloss.

Used a glass bowl over the water filled pan and kept the heat low for a soft boil which allows the steam to slowly melt ingredients.

What I used.

 

 After just a few easy steps your filling your containers and Cooling them in the fridge for just about 10 minutes or so.

SO I tried a fun project and reused and EOS container I love so much. Here’s how that works; Once your old  EOS container is used, you can pop off the center grate and screw it into the cap. You then fill with the new ingredients and place in fridge for 10 minutes. After it has cooled you screw and pop container back together and Boom..Reused container that…Wait for it. 

Looks Store bought. (Sorry about the terrible nails-Zero time to touch up).  It was such a fun little project to complete, and I seriously cannot believe how much it looks like the real deal. 

Feel like I Nailed it! So excited about this project. It was so fun and easy…Except for the clean up. Gotta be honest. Yikes that excess beeswax is a chore to clean out of the mixing bowls and spoons, but then again, it was totally worth it. Look at the shine. I did add a chunk of color from a tube of lipstick I will never wear to get that little hint of color and tint.

I also made a bunch of other little container for gifts.

Loved this project and cannot wait to make them again. Christmas is coming up soon.

To complete the gifts. I just decorated with initials of my  friends and family and a little bling, and a fun little bag. 

Since I had my Bees Wax out I made a Lip, Hand and Cuticle Gloss.

 

Ingredients:

Tablespoon Beeswax

Tablespoons Coconut Oil

Vitamin E Oil

Teaspoons Sweet Almond Oil

10 Drops Essential Oils. I used Frankincense, and Copaiba. Both are wonderful for the skin and very healing.

 

 

So soft and really makes the skin feel protected. After working into your skin it does not feel oily or sticky at all. It’s like it absorbs into your skin and goes right to work.
I hoarded these all to my self. It is has to be tested first 😉

I just tossed it in my boat bag and applied. First off it smelled good, and spread out on my skin with ease. I always get fustrated when I have to work hard to apply sunscreen evenly. We spent a few hours on the boat and then headed out on the bike for a 3 hour ride.  So I applied it 3 times in the day and a few things I noticed. It did not get sticky or messy. It absorbed and did what it was supposed to do and protected my skin. I also noticed that it covered much better that the normal sunscreen spay that I use. I also realized that my skin felt soft and not dried out. So even after a full day of boating and being out in the sun and also being on a motorcycle with the wind beating me up my skin still felt hydrated. Gotta say I really loved trying and using Block Island Sunscreen.

Some good cooking going on over here lately.

 

I am hooked on Blue Apron. We have been ordering it about two times a month for about 6 months and I really love this service. The variety and quality is amazing. Posted a ton of dinners in this Previous Post. 

 

Made one of my favorite easy go to meals. StoneFire Naan Flatbread Pizza.

 

Just used what I had on hand and threw it all on.

 

 

Yummy.

 

 

Naan is great to have on hand for so many easy dishes. Plus its great to have on hand for the weeks I do not get a Blue Apron order. Throwing a pizza together is super easy. I linked a previous post on Naan Here. I also just like to use it to dip into my hummus for lunch.

 

Organizing my everyday portable essential oils for summer has kept me busy. I love my oils and have been using them for over 10 years for everything from cuts, headaches, bug bites and household cleaners. I love seeing it being used more and more now in people’s homes. I  cannot remember the last time I used store bought house-hold cleaners.

I love creating and making homemade bug spray. Here is the link to my recipe from a previous post.

Here’s the Recipe I Use:

• 4 ounces Witch Hazel
• 4 Ounces Water
• 1/2 Tablespoon Vegetable Glycerin
• 15 Drops Tea Tree Oil
• 15 Drops Citronella Oil
• 15 Drops Peppermint Oil
• 15 Drops Eucalyptus Oil
• 15 Drops Lemon Oil

Mix, Shake Well and put in spray bottles.

Spray usually lasts for a few hours, but is safe to reapply several times throughout the day.

It also has a nice fresh and clean scent!

 

In a previous post I made a DIY Neck Pillow for a gift using Lavender Oil. Essential oils are a huge part of my life. I love making Spa type gifts for my friends and family and introdcing them to the many uses of essential oils.

 

Picked up a new label maker for $19.99. So excited. Also broke down a bought a big bag of skittles..Great placement at the checkout counter..Fell for it hard, it was tropical flavors after all.

 

 

My flowers are loving all the rain and cool nights. They are so beautiful this time of year.

 

 

Caught my Ginger girl trying to get a better view of a bird. She is so cute. My dogs love this turtle. I nicked named it Big T. I get pictures of them on it nearly every year.
