Hello, Hooray, its Foodie Pen Pal Day!

August Foodie Pen Pal Reveal Day is here, and I am so happy to share with you what I received, but first I want to introduce you to my sender Anna. Anna has a blog called Little Bay Stampin’ and her tag line is:  a little blog about paper, food, and family. set in the charming Cape Cod town of Orleans. perpetually covered in cat fur. 

So now to the goods, Anna made this lovely card. She stamped the flower jar and tied a little burlap bow on it, and added all the paper elements to the card. I love it, she clearly is talented and creative. Plus the note she wrote was great, she described all the items in the box. She’s from Cape Cod and has relatives in Michigan. Turns out her grandmother lives in a town just a few miles away from where I grew up. Talk about a small world.

Here’s all the items from the box. I think I have an amazing box of goodies. Plus she was so thoughtful and sent me some dog biscuit’s she found at a local farmers market.

Killian and Stuart loved them. They were very happy that they got a treat out of mommy’s foodie box. Yep, they call me mommy!

Now to Stuart enjoying his treat. Again, on a side note, He’s got a face I could kiss all day.


Killian and Stuart devoured those biscuits, they each got one large biscuit and some stashed away for another special occasion.

Anna sent some local Provincetown Taffy, she was worried that the heat would melt them, but rest assure Anna they made it in perfect shape and they were the first item I tried out of the box. Yummy. I love Taffy. I ate a few pieces, then, stashed the rest for a day I really need a candy fix. I have a feeling they will make a good snack during our next stay at home movie date. Confession: I stashed all the pink ones for me, they are my favorite. Shhh.

Cape Cod Crunch, where have you been all my life?  Oh yeah, in Cape Cod. See this proves my point about traveling to all the states, I need to find gems like this. I see a granola, fruit and yogurt parfait coming soon.

Now this really intrigues me, I cannot wait to give this a try. I always try to do a Meatless Monday Meal and this looks perfect for a flavorful Tofu dish. I need to spice up my tofu meals, I have making the same grilled and baked tofu dishes all summer, so I am needing and looking forward to a change. I’ll be sure to post about it.

Anna sent her favorite salsa, it’s Southwest Style Salsa, Mild Flavor and All Natural, which I love, plus it has black beans in it, bonus. I think this will be perfect for my Crock-Pot Chicken Tacos.

I love shortbread cookies and love getting them at Christmas Cookie Exchanges. So I was really excited to try this savory flavor. All’s I can say is it did not disappoint. Wow, it was terrific.  Salted Rosemary. Amazing combo. I found them on-line and cannot wait to place an order for these cookies and a few others that sounded too good not to try. They are made by  Lark Fine Food, so  if you’re looking for a wonderful adult cookie, they have several varieties to choose from.  I also think these are going to make great gifts for the holiday season.

Now to the Jams. Anna and her husband have a business and make and sell these at the Farm Market. She sent a Tomato Jam and A Cherry Jam. I have never tried Tomato Jam and Anna said to use it like you would ketchup. Their Company is Little Bay Jams. How cool is that?


As for the Cherry Jam, look out almond butter you’re gonna meet a jam that will blow your crust off! It was instant love, this Cherry Jam is darn tasty. I loved the sweetness of the cherries and it spread so nice.


Well Anna, thank-you so much for a great box of local food items, and for the homemade jams and card you made, you really did a great job of making this Foodie Pen Pal, One Happy Gal! Plus I just love your blog and all the creative cards ideas that you post, plus the bonus of having the opportunity of watching the craft unfold on YouTube is priceless. Thank-you my Cape Cod Friend.

Want to become a Foodie Pen Pal? 

Here’s a detailed explanation of the program:

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsThe spending limit is $15The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. Sneaky Cookie, what….

Breakfast, it’s a must for me. I have found over the years that I need a really good breakfast. I prefer oatmeal to any other foods for breakfast. It sticks with me through the morning, it’s healthy and packed with fiber. So I am always on the hunt for a new recipes or a great new oatmeal idea. I eat OJIA almost every single day. I try to get my husband to eat more oatmeal, but he prefers bowls of cereal in the morning. So every so often I’ll leave him a jar of OIAJ for him to eat as a break from the box cereal, I’m always trying to sell him on the idea of eating daily oats, but he always goes back to cereal. So when I saw this Oatmeal Breakfast Cookie, I thought, how can he resist?

Well he couldn’t, he loved it. It is basically Overnight Oats, but on a plate. So I think I will make this for him a few times a week. I just feel like the protein value and the nutrients in the oats and nut butters are just so important to get the day started, and so void in boxed cereal. I want my husband around for a long time. So I am always trying to improve on the foods we eat.

Sneaky Breakfast Oatmeal Cookie

Adapted from the Fit Fitnessista

In a small bowl, add

1/3 cup oats

1 tbsp nut butter

1/2 scoop protein powder

Stir to combine and use the spoon to break up the nut butter until you have a nice crumbly mixture:

Then Add,

1/8 cup milk of your choice, and mix until fully moistened

Then, Pick your mix-ins. Here’s some ideasBanana, raisins, pumpkin, chocolate chips, nuts

I used a ripe small banana

Stir in your mix-ins of choice

Now, season to taste. Here’s what I added: Stevia, cinnamon, unsweetened coco powder

Plop the mixture onto an appetizer-sized plate and with the back of your spoon, flatten it into a round shape with equal thickness throughout

Put the cookie in the fridge overnight. It will harden slightly from the nut butter and the oats will soften from the milk.

Enjoy a wonderful Sneaky Breakfast Cookie for breakfast.

Love comes in many shapes and sizes, my new love is in the form of these protein peanut butter balls.

Amaze-Balls is really all I can say about them. Crazy how sometimes the littlest food item packs the most flavor and satisfy my sweet tooth.

I have seen these Protein Balls here and there on other Healthy Living Blogs, but never really saw a flavor that made me stand up and shout, I need those NOW. Yes, I have printed each and every recipe I have seen, but have yet to make them, that was until I saw Calee’s recipe for Chocolate Salty [protein] Balls.

Peanut Butter Protein Balls

Adapted from Life + Running. You have to check out Calee’s blog, she is funny, smart, creative, and strong. She also has a mom named Dena, just in case you were wondering. We both completed the Fitmixer Boot Camp together, and we both attended the Blend Retreat. Her electric personality is contagious, go get some.


  • 3/4 Cup Rolled Oats
  • 1/4 Cup Protein Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Agave Nectar
  • 2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
  • 1 Teaspoon Unsweetened Coco Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract


  1. Pour oats into food processor and pulse until they become a flour.
  2. Add protein powder and coco powder, and pulse to combine thoroughly.
  3. Mix in agave, peanut butter and vanilla — you can do this by hand if your machine can’t handle it. Pulse a few times and watch your machine. If it seems to be too much, pull dough out and mix by hand.
  4. Roll into tablespoon-sized balls.
  5. Refrigerate. Eat and Enjoy.

Loving pasta is not hard for me, I grew up eating it, I’m sure we all did. So for a little zip I add Spinach to my Pasta.

Adding veggies to my meals is really important to me, I really love the taste of veggies, but I also really love the way they benefit me.

These are my favorite meatballs made by Pierino, they are made in Michigan in a town called Lincoln Park. I grew up right next door to this town and you can find them in any grocery store in Michigan. They have an entire line of Italian foods.

To get your spinach on, just toss into the pan and cook for 5 minutes with your sauce.

What a great way to add a little green goodness into your meal.

What’s a good pasta dinner without a side of bread.

I used the ever hearty fettuccine noodles for tonight’s pasta dinner.


Hope you’re enjoying the last of summer, I know I’m soaking in every second of the day. It might be hot out, but I’d rather be hot then cold any day.
